| Ian R. Elliot
Project Coordinator Montana Center on Disabilities,
Brain Injury Thriver, & Billings Support Group Facilitator.
Montana State University - Billings
In May 1994, Ian dozed off at 75 mph and woke up 3 weeks later with a fractured pelvis, torn rotor cuff in his left shoulder and a permanent brain injury. His career as a professional performing artist, playwright, arts presenter and theatre manager was put on hold during a lengthy rehabilitation process which continues to this day. He lost his 17 year marriage, his job, and partial cognitive capacity over 10 years ago, and developed innovative strategies to recover from his losses. In 1998 he graduated with honors and now holds a Masters Degree in Rehabilitative Counseling.
Ian has developed and staged an original theatrical presentation entitled, "STARFIRE...An Empowering Journey through Trauma". It is affordably priced, easily staged and designed for touring to other sites. "STARFIRE..." incorporates visual art, music, mime, and theatre elements in telling his story of recovery and inspiring fellow thrivers and family members to address their issues creatively and passionately. Ian is a support group facilitator, published playwright, musician, performing arts producer/presenter and a disability rights advocate.
